The Tegirekskiy State Nature Reserve located in Altai region of Russia invites volunteers to help scientific researches in entomological study and preparation work for the inventory of small mammals.

Dates of slots on entomological study: May 15 – June 08, June 24 – July 11, August 10-30, 2016. It is possible to change dates of a slot for 3-4 days, as well as to come for a part of a slot, but not less than for 9 days, taking in account the time spent for a trip Barnaul-Tigirek-Barnaul.
A group of girls and boys up to 5 people is needed for each slot.

What are volunteers to do during entomological study?
a) To dig trapping containers for insect into the ground.
b) To identify species in soil samples – to search specified species and put them into proper bottles.
c) To make equipment of cardboard and fabric mesh.
d) Search small nest of ants, tracking the movement of worker individuals from a feeder with sugar syrup to their nest.
i) Volunteers, who arrive in August, will disassemble soil samples and taking large invertebrates out (working in this period, volunteers will be able to visit all the altitudinal belts – and subalpine meadows, and mountain forests, and picturesque low mountain slope steppes).

The period of preparatory work (digging grooves) for inventory of small mammals – from late May to July 15, 2016 (the date of the arrival of volunteers should be coordinated with the nature reserve).
We need a group of men up to 10 people.

What will the volunteers do? Dig grooves in the ground of 30-40 cm in depth and width, and of a few tens of meters in length, every 10 meters dig in a trapping container of about 5 l.

What will the participants of these two projects be able to see and know?
You will climb the slopes of the mountains and enjoy the beauty of opening panoramas, observe turbulent mountain rivers (and even cross them through by reliable cars), making your way among flowering mountain meadows, alternating with beautiful groves. You will visit a real black taiga – a relic of large-leaved forests, as well as a small Logovo Gieny Cave (active and diligent volunteers, who came for a long time, may be able to visit deep caves – Yashchur and Strashnaya) and other interesting places of the protected territory. Our scientific employees will talk about Altai nature.
